Just Start Writing

Who here wants to record their life's adventures?

Since founding this company, I've been toying with the idea of recording my own story. I started this business during a season in which I was very aware of my mortality. And while my thoughts and feelings at that time caused me a lot of anxiety, they also motivated me to build a life and business that gets me excited every single day. I love listening to people's stories. I always have. One of my all-time favourite questions to ask a new friend is, "Tell me a story about yourself."

Over these past couple of years, it's been incredibly rewarding to help you record your stories and adventures. What surprised me most was how much I could learn from my client's stories. I had expected to learn about cultures, traditions and historical events. But, what I didn't expect was how much I would learn about being human through your unique experiences and perspectives on life. This journey of sharing and learning has enriched my understanding of the world and brought me closer to my own self, sparking personal growth and self-discovery that I never anticipated.

What I've come to realize is that while the most valuable lessons are learned through experience, second to that is the life experience and wisdom of others.

So, now let me ask you again. Do you want to record your life's adventures?

I know I do. But, for one reason or another, I haven't been able to get started. The reason why I haven't started yet boils down to this: I keep telling myself that I don't know how or where to begin. Of course, even I know that's not true. But that's the story I've been telling myself.

Remember, there's no right or wrong way to record your life story. You may choose to write about your experiences by typing them into a document or hand-writing them into a journal. Or, you might prefer to record your stories in an audio or video format to be transcribed and edited later. It's entirely up to you. This freedom and flexibility in the storytelling process is what empowers you to share your unique experiences in a way that feels most comfortable and authentic to you. However, having a plan as to how you'd like to share your stories later will help you choose the most appropriate medium.

For my own stories, I've decided to audio record them first. That way, I can always transcribe them later. I find oral storytelling much more accessible than writing. This is also the same approach I use with my clients. Rather than worrying about how to write something so it reads well, I focus on having you share your stories in your own words in a way that feels most comfortable for you.

We all have a story to tell. If you have a story inside you that you want to share with your family and friends or maybe with the world, then this is your sign to start writing it now.

Just start writing.
